The Lister Star is a mains-powered, medium-duty animal clipper for horse owners, stable staff and professional handlers. Lister also identifies cattle, alpacas and pigs among its applications. The compact body uses a 45-watt motor and a 50 mm grip diameter, with grips on the sides of the handle to help the user maintain control through a clipping session.

The Star combines a ventilated cutting head with a tensioning system that establishes the contact pressure between the blades. An overload switch shuts the motor off if the cutting mechanism jams, while the removable air filter provides access for cleaning away trapped dirt and hair. Its published weight is 750 g, and the clipper body measures 240 mm long.

The standard A2F/AC fine blade leaves approximately 1.4 mm of hair. Blade selection should match the coat: Lister recommends its CA2 coarse blade for thick, coarse coats before a finer finishing pass when required.

For everyday upkeep, oil with R15 every five to ten minutes during clipping. After use, remove hair and dirt from the head, clean and re-oil the blades, and check the filter for blockages. Following the tensioning instructions and keeping the filter clean helps the Star's ventilation and cutting system work as intended.
